Let Them Breathe

Inspired by all the teachers I've spoken to recently.


I don’t know how teachers do it.

Every day a new platform, a new login, a new thing they’re told will make their lives easier—but never does.


And the inbox keeps filling.


And the schedule keeps tightening. And the kids... the kids still come in with full hearts and half-formed emotions, asking for attention without always using words.


Some days I think we’ve forgotten.


That we’ve made education a tech conference with a whiteboard in the corner.

That we’ve mistaken movement for meaning.


I read something once—“If you want a teacher to take on something new, ask them what they’re going to give up.”It stayed with me.Not because it’s unfair.Because it’s true.


There’s no room left.

They feel safer.


And teachers?

They spend less time managing chaos.Less time guessing what’s going on under the surface.Less time wondering why the brightest kid in the room is suddenly shutting down.

When SEL is done right,a lot of the “extra things”stop being necessary.

You don’t need as many behavior charts.You don’t need to re-explain expectations ten times a day.You don’t need to constantly repair what never got built in the first place.

Because the foundation’s there.And the child standing on it isn’t just smarter.They’re stronger.And so is the teacher beside them.


So no—don’t add one more thing.

Add the right thing.

The one that gives you more time, not less.The one that makes every other tool work better.The one that reminds you why you said yes to this in the first place.


Let’s not overwhelm teachers with one more innovation.Let’s give them back the one thing they’ve been robbed of for far too long.
